Harry Reid Egregiously Inaccurate of GOP’s History

By Christopher Malagisi

Senator Harry Reid’s ignorant and partisan comments yesterday likening Republican opposition of socialized health care to that of slavery is egregiously and historically incorrect. The Democrat Senate Majority Leader should brush up on his American history as it was the Republicans – not the Democrats – who led the fight and ultimately ended slavery in America.

The Republican Party was formed in 1854 as a coalition of three groups – the remnants of the Whig Party that believed in a limited federal government, Free Soil Democrats who were at odds with their political party having passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act – the act which repealed the Missouri Compromise, and slavery abolitionists who believed slavery was morally wrong and violated the rights of man.

In 1860 the Republican Party nominated Abraham Lincoln as their nominee for President – the man eventually responsible for the Emancipation Proclamation, the Gettysburg Address, winning the Civil War, and ending slavery.

The Young Turn Against Obamacare

By Dick Morris And Eileen McGann

Previously, we reported to you that our national polling showed that the under-30 voters were the strongest supporters of the Obama healthcare initiative. While seniors opposed it by almost 2-to-1 and voters 30-64 opposed it by five- to 10-point margins, the under-30 voters backed his program by 58-30.

So with the funds you have donated, we ran television advertisments and an Internet campaign aimed at young people focused in Arkansas, North Dakota and Maine. The results are incredible! Now under-30 voters are the strongest opponents of the plan. In the table below, we show you the vote on the Obama plan broken down by age.

Health ‘reform’ that burdens our young

By Robert Samuelson

One of our long-running political stories is the economic assault on the young by the old. We have become a society that invests in its past and disfavors the future. This makes no sense for the nation, but as politics it makes complete sense. The elderly and near elderly are better organized, focus obsessively on their government benefits and seem deserving. Grandmas and Grandpas command sympathy.

Everyone knows that the resulting “entitlements” dominate government spending and squeeze education, research, defense and almost everything else. In fiscal 2008 — the last “normal” year before the economic crisis — Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid (programs wholly or primarily dedicated to the elderly) totaled $1.3 trillion, 43 percent of federal spending and more than twice military spending. Because workers, not retirees, are the primary taxpayers, this spending involves huge transfers to the old.

Now comes the House-passed health-care “reform” bill that, amazingly, would extract more subsidies from the young.
