The Young Conservatives Coalition will host the second annual Young Conservative Leadership Buckley Award ceremony, recognizing five conservative rising stars who’ve made significant contributions within the conservative movement over the past year. All winners are younger than 40. The ceremony, slated for Thursday, Sept, 29, is in honor of the late William F. Buckley Jr., the conservative movement leader and icon who founded National Review, wrote 40 books, including God and Man at Yale, and published a regular column syndicated to 300 newspapers. He educated and inspired thousands of conservatives, especially young ones, through his articles, books and TV appearances…
GOP 2012 hopeful Rep. Thad McCotter likes to jam on his red, white and blue Fender Telecaster guitar. He brings it to speaking engagements, plays in a few bands and even has the guitar in his Twitter pic.
When he did an interview Wednesday with the Young Conservatives Coalition, they naturally asked him about his jam sessions.
“You play as lead guitar for a band called The Second Amendments, which is a bipartisan rock band of House members. …You’ve even been known to quote rock lyrics on the House floor sometimes,” the young interviewer pointed out. He asked about the lyrics of the song “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” The Obama administration, the host wanted to know, “have they really fooled us?”
Earlier this month, former President Bill Clinton accused the Republican Party of trying to suppress the youth vote. In a speech to a group of progressive college students, Clinton said, “One of the most pervasive political movements going on outside Washington today is the disciplined, passionate, determined effort of Republican governors and legislators to keep most of you from voting next time.”…
