Christopher N. Malagisi, President

Christopher Malagisi is currently the President of the Young Conservatives Coalition – a DC-based young professional conservative leadership, educational and networking organization that annually distributes the Young Conservative Leadership “William F. Buckley, Jr.” Awards and organizes the annual Reaganpalooza confab.

Malagisi is also an Adjunct Professor at American University teaching History of the Conservative Movement and Campaigns & Political Activism and is currently an expert political consultant, specializing in five areas – External Relations & Outreach, Coalition Building, Event Management, Political Training and  Conservative Education (philosophical and historical).

He is a freelance writer and Townhall.com guest columnist and has been published in The Washington Examiner, The Daily Caller, The American Spectator, The Washington Times, NPR, NewsBusters, Doublethink, Campaigns & Elections magazine and numerous other publications. He has appeared on Fox News, Fox Business, CNN and CSPAN as a political analyst and was awarded the “2009 Rising Star Award” and was recognized as a “2011 DC Mover & Shaker” from Campaigns & Elections magazine for significant professional achievements in national politics.

Previously, he has served as Director of National CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) & External Relations at the American Conservative Union, Director of Political & New Media Training at The Leadership Institute, and has worked on three presidential campaigns, the Republican Party of Virginia, the International Republican Institute (travelling to Afghanistan), Capitol Hill and the College Republican National Committee.

He has completed fellowships with the National Review Institute, Claremont Institute, Foreign Policy Initiative, and is a member of The Heritage Foundation Young President’s Club and The Philadelphia Society.  He has a Masters of Public Administration (M.P.A.) from Syracuse University and a Political Science degree from American University.  Additionally, he is an alumnus of Semester at Sea (sailing around the world), is originally from Buffalo, NY and has recorded two original piano albums.

Sarah B. Smith, Vice President
Sarah Smith is a development officer at Americans for Prosperity. Most recently, she served as a recruiter at Positions Inc., specializing in government relations, association, and non-profit placement. Prior to recruiting, Sarah was the manager of political research and the K Street Project at Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). There she ran ATR’s job employment service and the monthly Americans for Tax Reform Job Listings. Sarah started her career in Washington interning with the Republican National Committee major donor program, the Eagles. Sarah is also a veteran of many campaigns, such as the Bush/Cheney ’04 re-election campaign, where she worked as the Pennsylvania team leader & field representative for the College Republican National Committee. She has also served as the Chair on the DC Steering Committees for the releases of critically acclaimed independent films, Bella and The Stoning of Soraya M. Currently, Sarah serves on the board of Political Chicks RightNOW.
She received her B.A. in International Affairs with honors and a concentration in Spanish from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA.

William Haun, Policy Chairman

William J. Haun is policy chairman for the Young Conservatives Coalition, coordinating its upcoming fellowship program, podcasts, and educational outreach. He currently serves as an Attorney-Advisor to Administrative Law Judge Linda Chapman at the U.S. Department of Labor. Starting the in the fall of 2013, Mr. Haun will clerk for the Honorable Claude M. Hilton on the United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, from 2013-2014.

Mr. Haun received his B.A. cum laude from American University, and his J.D. cum laude from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. While in law school, he was a published member of the Catholic University Law Review, an executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a research and teaching assistant to constitutional law professor Mark Rienzi. Mr. Haun also worked in the Public Integrity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Maryland, for two Article I federal judges, and under former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese at the Heritage Foundation. In 2005, Mr. Haun represented Connecticut as a recipient of the William Randolph Hearst Foundation’s U.S. Senate Youth Scholarship. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar, and currently lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland with his wife.

 

Shana Teehan, Steering Committee

A native Texan, Shana Teehan is a proud, homeschooling mother of four. Shana has worked for several conservative candidates, personalities and organizations from across the country, helping to develop comprehensive media and public relations strategies for brand promotion, advocacy, fundraising and list-building. A resident of Alabama for the last several years, Shana served as Communications Director for the Alabama Republican Party. Recently, Shana relocated to D.C. to join Congressman Kevin Brady’s team as his Press Secretary. Her children, Molly, Alex, Jak, Sam, and of course, her husband, Tim, are excited about exploring our nation’s capitol as a family.

 

Richard Lim, Steering Committee

Richard Lim is a former political appointee for the White House and the U.S. Department of Labor and has also served at the Department of State.  He is a graduate of the Maxwell School at Syracuse University with a Master of Public Administration and a Certificate in Advanced Security Studies from the Lauder School of Government in the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel.
